PAWS Feral Cat Program

PAWS follows the TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program designed by Alley Cat Allies.  The goal of this program is to reduce the feral cat populationKilling feral cats does not reduce the number of cats.  It only replaces the ones killed because the breeding continues.  TNR stops the breeding.

TNR is a comprehensive community plan in which entire feral cat
colonies, small or large, are humanely trapped, neutered and vaccinated by local veterinarians, and then returned to their familiar habitat to live under the watchful eye of volunteer caregivers.  Kittens and cats that are tame enough to be adopted are placed in good homes by public or private adoption organizations.

Neutering eliminates nuisance behaviors associated with breeding, such as yowling of females, spraying and fighting of males, and the endless number of kittens born to unspayed females.

Vaccinating eliminates the threat of rabies to humans.

Returning to caregivers ensures that disease and malnutrition decrease.

PAWS receives calls daily from Gillespie County citizens who started feeding a few strays and saw the number multiply to 15-20 cats.  They are unable to catch them to be altered.  The TNR services provided by PAWS are not available from any other local organization.  If someone is willing to feed and care for the feral cats, PAWS will trap them, have them spayed/neutered, and vaccinated at no cost to the owner.  Donations are always welcome, but not required.  You may call 830-990-1018 for additional information on TNR in Gillespie County.
